Mullvad alternative for trading.
Mullvad is a legitimate privacy tool. For secure browsing and geo-restriction bypass, it does what it says. For trading, it works against you: it adds latency overhead, routes through servers not placed near broker datacenters, and can destabilise MT4’s persistent TCP connection.
TradersProxy solves a different problem. It routes only trading platform traffic through a node placed near your broker’s matching engine — no full-device tunnel, no general-purpose server routing.
Mullvad and TradersProxy solve different problems.
Mullvad is known for anonymous accounts, no-logs, privacy focus. It runs 700+ servers in 49 countries on WireGuard / OpenVPN. All of this is built for privacy use cases — not trading execution.
Mullvad is highly regarded for its anonymous account model and strict no-logs policy. It has one of the leaner server footprints in the consumer VPN space. For trading, that small footprint means even less chance that a Mullvad server sits near your broker's Equinix co-location facility.
TradersProxy routes only your trading platform traffic through a node placed near your broker’s matching engine. No full-device encryption tunnel. No general-purpose server. A purpose-built path from your platform to your broker.
What Mullvad does to your trading traffic
When you connect Mullvad and open MT4, every order you send travels like this:
- Your order leaves MT4 on your machine.
- Instead of going directly toward your broker, it routes through a Mullvad server — chosen for privacy coverage, not broker proximity.
- The Mullvad server forwards it to your broker’s server.
- The broker processes it and sends the fill confirmation back through the same Mullvad server.
- The fill confirmation arrives on your machine.
Every single order goes through that extra hop. The result:
- Geographic detour: Mullvad’s servers are placed for privacy network coverage — not in Equinix NY4, LD4, TY3, or SY4, where your broker’s matching engine lives. You are routing away from your broker to reach your broker.
- Encryption overhead: Full-tunnel VPN encryption adds processing latency at both endpoints. Combined with the routing detour, total overhead is typically 8–25 ms overhead.
- Connection instability: VPN keepalive mechanisms can conflict with MT4’s own persistent TCP keepalive, causing unexpected disconnections during live trading sessions.
This does not make Mullvad a bad product for its intended use. The issue is applying a privacy tool to an execution problem.
The priority route for your trading platform
Most traders think about two layers: their platform (MT4, MT5, cTrader) and their broker. The missing piece is the network path between them — the TCP stream that carries every order, every tick, every fill confirmation.
A VPN changes that path in the wrong direction. It adds hops and latency. TradersProxy changes the path in the right direction: replacing unstable public internet hops with a purpose-built relay node placed near your broker’s datacenter.

Nodes near broker datacenters. Not general-purpose servers.
TradersProxy nodes sit in or adjacent to Equinix facilities: NY4 (New Jersey) · LD4 (London) · TY3 (Tokyo) · SY4 (Sydney) · SG1 (Singapore) · and more. These are the same datacenters IC Markets, Pepperstone, Exness, Axi, and XM use for their matching engines.

When to use each
Use Mullvad if:
- You need to bypass a geographic restriction and there is no other option.
- Security on public Wi-Fi is your primary concern and you accept the latency tradeoff.
- You are a swing or position trader where 20–50 ms additional latency is irrelevant to your outcomes.
Use TradersProxy if:
- You want your orders to reach your broker faster and more reliably.
- You are scalping, news trading, or in any execution-sensitive style.
- Your MT4 disconnects and you want to fix the route rather than add more hops to it.
- You want to reduce latency and jitter without changing brokers or moving to a VPS.
These two tools are not competing for the same job. If you are using Mullvad for trading execution quality, you have the wrong tool. Trading execution and privacy are different problems.

Mullvad vs TradersProxy — questions
Mullvad is not designed for trading. It adds 8–25 ms overhead from encryption and VPN server routing, routes through general-purpose servers rather than broker-proximate datacenters, and can interfere with MT4 persistent TCP connections. A dedicated trading proxy is the correct tool for execution quality.
Mullvad encrypts all device traffic through a general-purpose server built for privacy. TradersProxy routes only trading platform traffic through a node placed near your broker's datacenter. VPNs prioritise privacy. Trading proxies prioritise execution quality and latency reduction.
MT4 will connect through a VPN, but a VPN routes all traffic through its own server which adds latency and is not near your broker's matching engine. For execution-sensitive trading, a SOCKS5 proxy configured directly in MT4 gives better latency and connection stability.
