How to Set Up MTProto Proxy in Telegram: Unblocked in 60 Seconds.
Telegram blocked at your location. Restricted in your region. Throttled by your ISP. All three are solved by the same 60-second setup — paste a link from your portal, tap Enable, done.
No software to install. No configuration files. Telegram has MTProto proxy support built in. This guide covers every device: Android, iPhone, Telegram Desktop on Windows and Mac.
If you've been putting it off because you expected it to be complicated, it isn't. The link does the work.
Setup in 60 Seconds · Standard & Pro plans
What's the fastest way to set this up?
Sign in to your portal at portal.tradersproxy.com. Copy the tg:// link from the Telegram section of your dashboard. Open that link on the device where Telegram is installed — it opens Telegram directly with the proxy pre-configured. Tap Enable. Done.
If the tg:// link doesn't open automatically in your browser, copy and paste it into Telegram's search bar, or add the proxy manually: Settings ? Privacy and Security ? Proxy ? Add Proxy. Enter the server, port, and secret from your portal.
The proxy works identically on Android, iOS, Telegram Desktop on Windows, and Telegram Desktop on macOS. One set of credentials, any platform. MTProto is included on Standard ($15/mo) and Pro ($25/mo) — see plans for device limits.
Before you start: what you need.
Three things, and you likely already have all of them.
A Standard or Pro plan. MTProto is not included on the Starter plan. If you are on Starter, the dashboard will show your SOCKS5 relay but not the MTProto section. To add MTProto, upgrade from the portal. Standard is $15/mo, Pro is $25/mo. See plan details.
A portal login. Your credentials are at portal.tradersproxy.com. If you signed up but haven't logged in, use the email address from signup and the password you set. If you've forgotten it, the portal has a reset flow.
The Telegram app installed on the device you're configuring. Telegram is available on Android, iOS, Windows, macOS, and Linux. The proxy feature is available on all of these. Telegram Web (web.telegram.org) does not support proxy settings.
That is everything. No VPN client to install. No certificate to trust. No network configuration. The proxy uses Telegram's own built-in proxy support, which has been part of the app since Telegram 4.0.
"By the time the notification landed, the trade was already wrong. Setup takes 60 seconds. The only reason to delay is not knowing how easy it is."
The fastest method: tg:// deep link.
Works on all platforms. One link configures everything.
-
1Sign in to your portal
Go to portal.tradersproxy.com. Your MTProto credentials are on the dashboard under the Telegram section.
-
2Copy the tg:// link
The portal shows a link in the format
tg://proxy?server=…&port=…&secret=…. Your FakeTLS secret starts withee— this is correct. Copy the entire link. -
3Open the link
On mobile: paste it into your browser's address bar and press enter, or tap a shared version of the link. On desktop: paste it into your browser. The OS will prompt you to open Telegram.
-
4Tap Enable in Telegram
Telegram opens and shows the proxy details — server name, port, and secret. The secret is pre-filled. Tap Enable. Telegram connects immediately.
-
5Confirm connection
Telegram will show a brief connecting status, then the proxy is active. Check Settings ? Privacy and Security ? Proxy to confirm the green connected indicator and a ping time.
Android step-by-step.
If the tg:// link method works for you, use it — it's the same result with fewer taps. If you prefer to enter the settings manually or the link method is not working on your device, use this path.
Then:
-
1Open Settings
Tap the three-line menu (hamburger) in the top-left corner of the Telegram home screen. Select Settings from the menu.
-
2Privacy and Security
Scroll down to Privacy and Security. Tap it.
-
3Proxy Settings
Scroll to the bottom of Privacy and Security. Tap Proxy Settings (or "Use Proxy" depending on your Telegram version).
-
4Add Proxy ? MTProto
Tap the + button or Add Proxy. Select MTProto as the proxy type. Enter the server hostname, port, and secret from your portal. The secret starts with
ee. -
5Connect
Tap Connect (or Save, then toggle the proxy on). Telegram shows a ping time next to the proxy entry when it's active.
iPhone / iOS step-by-step.
The iOS path is slightly different in menu naming from Android, but the logic is identical. The tg:// link method works the same on iOS — if you use it, Telegram opens and handles the configuration automatically.
-
1Tap Settings
Tap the settings gear icon at the bottom-right of the Telegram home screen (or your profile icon, depending on layout version).
-
2Privacy and Security
Tap Privacy and Security in the Settings list.
-
3Proxy
Scroll down to find Proxy (under the Data and Storage section in some versions). Tap it.
-
4Add Proxy ? MTProto
Tap Add Proxy. Select the MTProto tab at the top of the form. Enter your server, port, and secret from the portal.
-
5Save and Connect
Tap Save. Telegram connects. The proxy entry shows a green dot and ping time when active.
If iOS is not opening the tg:// link from Safari: copy the link, open Telegram, tap the search bar, paste the link and press search. Telegram should recognise the proxy link format.
Telegram Desktop on Windows.
Telegram Desktop has full proxy support. The tg:// link method works on Windows — clicking it in a browser or from a file should open Telegram with the proxy pre-configured. If you prefer the manual path, or if your system does not open tg:// links by default:
-
1Open Settings
Click the three-line menu in the top-left. Click Settings.
-
2Advanced
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings sidebar and click Advanced.
-
3Connection type
Under the Network section, find "Connection type". Click it to expand. Select "Use custom proxy".
-
4MTProto type
From the proxy type dropdown, select MTProto. Enter the hostname, port, and secret from your portal. The secret starts with
ee. -
5Save
Click Save. Telegram connects via the proxy. The status is visible in Settings ? Advanced.
Telegram Desktop on macOS.
The macOS path is nearly identical to Windows. The menu structure differs slightly depending on whether you use the App Store version or the direct download.
-
1Settings
Click Telegram in the macOS menu bar ? Settings, or use the gear icon in the sidebar.
-
2Advanced
Scroll to the bottom of the Settings list and click Advanced.
-
3Connection type ? Use custom proxy
Click Connection type. Select "Use custom proxy".
-
4Select MTProto, enter credentials
Choose MTProto from the type selector. Enter the server, port, and secret from your portal dashboard.
-
5Click Save
Save the settings. Telegram connects via the proxy immediately. If using the tg:// link on macOS, Safari or Chrome should prompt you to open Telegram — accept and confirm in the app.
How to confirm the proxy is working.
Three ways to verify the proxy is active and functioning correctly.
1. Green dot in Proxy settings. Settings ? Privacy and Security ? Proxy. Your proxy entry should show a green dot to the left of the server name, and a ping time in milliseconds to the right. A green dot means the proxy server is reachable and Telegram is connected through it.
2. The ping value. The ping shown in Proxy settings is the round-trip time from your device to the proxy server. A lower number means lower latency. For comparison, a direct unproxied Telegram connection to a distant data centre might show higher latency with additional throttle-induced delay during congested periods. Through the proxy, the connection routes via FakeTLS so the DPI queue is bypassed entirely.
3. The status bar on mobile. On Android and iOS, when the proxy is active, the Telegram toolbar may show a brief indicator during connect/reconnect events. It does not show a persistent visual indicator in normal operation — the green dot in settings is the definitive check.
The timestamp test. If you want to verify signal delivery improvement: note the time a message appears in a signal room according to Telegram's own timestamp, then note the time your notification appeared. If the gap is consistently under two seconds, the proxy is doing its job. If you see gaps of 3–10 seconds during market hours, there is still throttling happening — check that the proxy is enabled and connected.
Status indicators in Proxy settings
Troubleshooting: connection refused, wrong secret, port blocked, still slow.
Connection refused / "Unable to connect to proxy". Usually means the server address or port is entered incorrectly. Go back to your portal and copy the values again exactly — particularly the server hostname, which is case-sensitive. Delete the existing proxy entry and re-add it. If the error persists, check your portal subscription status is active.
Wrong secret. The secret is a hex string starting with ee. If you enter it without the ee prefix, or if you truncate it, the connection will fail with an authentication error. Copy it directly from the portal — do not retype it manually.
Port blocked by ISP or network. Some networks block non-standard ports. The TradersProxy MTProto proxy uses a port configured for each user, visible in the portal. If your network blocks that port, try the connection over mobile data to confirm the proxy itself is working. If it works on mobile data but not Wi-Fi, the Wi-Fi network is filtering that port. FakeTLS masks the traffic as HTTPS, which helps with DPI-based blocking but not port-based firewall rules.
Connected but still slow. If the proxy shows as connected but signal delivery still feels delayed, check which DC your Telegram is connecting to. In some regions, the FakeTLS path through the proxy may route slightly differently than expected. Check the ping in Settings ? Privacy and Security ? Proxy — if it's above 500ms, the proxy server may be distant from your location. Contact support via the portal with your account details and the ping value shown.
tg:// link not opening on desktop. On Windows: right-click the link, copy, then paste into the Run dialog (Win+R). On macOS: paste into Safari's address bar directly. Alternatively, open Telegram Desktop and use the manual settings path described in Chapter 05 or 06.
Eight things worth knowing.
No. Telegram has built-in proxy support on all platforms — Android, iOS, Windows, and macOS. You configure the proxy in Telegram's settings. No separate software, no browser extensions, no OS-level changes.
Your plan determines how many simultaneous MTProto connections are permitted. Standard allows a defined number of concurrent connections; Pro allows more. Check your portal for your current plan's device limit. If you need Telegram connected on both phone and desktop simultaneously, Pro is the right tier.
A tg:// link is a deep link that opens directly inside the Telegram app. When it contains proxy parameters — server, port, and secret — Telegram reads those values and presents you with an Enable Proxy screen pre-filled with the correct configuration. It is the fastest setup method and works identically on Android, iOS, and Desktop.
If your browser or email client is not opening the link, copy the link and paste it directly into Telegram's search bar. On desktop, you can also go to Settings > Advanced > Connection type > Use custom proxy and enter the server, port, and secret manually from your portal.
No. Proxy settings are stored locally in the app. If you reinstall Telegram or restore to a new device, you will need to reconfigure the proxy using the tg:// link from your portal. The link is always available in your portal dashboard.
Yes. In Telegram Settings > Privacy and Security > Proxy, you can toggle the proxy connection on and off without removing it. The credentials remain saved. Toggle it back on when you want the proxy active.
No. Telegram Web (web.telegram.org) does not support MTProto proxy settings. The proxy is a feature of the native Telegram apps — Android, iOS, and Desktop. For signal trading, native app is the correct platform anyway.
MTProto is included on Standard ($15/mo) and Pro ($25/mo). The Starter plan does not include MTProto. Starter includes SOCKS5 for your trading terminal only.
