MT4 Proxy Setup on Android.

MT4’s Android app has no native proxy dialog. The correct method: AdGuard free sets a device-level SOCKS5 proxy that routes MT4’s traffic through your TradersProxy node.

Quick answer

MT4 for Android has no native proxy settings dialog. Install AdGuard free from Google Play. In AdGuard: Settings → Filtering → Network → Proxy → add proxy → SOCKS5 → enter your TradersProxy host, port, username, password. Enable the proxy. Enable AdGuard protection. Done.

⚠ Phone-wide proxy warning. AdGuard routes all apps on your phone through the proxy — not just MT4. This is intentional and necessary because MT4 Android has no per-app proxy support. Be aware: all apps (browser, email, other apps) use the proxy while it is active. On a mobile data plan, proxying all traffic will consume your data allowance faster. Disable AdGuard or the proxy when you are not trading if data usage is a concern.

How to proxy MT4 on Android

Before you start

You need:

  1. MT4 installed and connecting to your broker normally — confirm a working baseline first.
  2. Your TradersProxy credentials from the portal: host, port, username, password.
  3. AdGuard free installed from Google Play.

Step 1 — Copy your TradersProxy credentials

Log in to the TradersProxy portal. Open your connection details and copy the host, port, username, and password for your assigned node. Paste them into a notes app on your phone. Long host strings with hyphens and dots are error-prone to type manually.

Step 2 — Install AdGuard from Google Play

Search AdGuard on Google Play. Install AdGuard: Block Ads & Surf Safe by AdGuard Software Limited. The free version includes full proxy support. No premium upgrade is required for this setup.

Grant the VPN permission when prompted — AdGuard uses a local VPN interface to intercept and route traffic. This is how it applies the proxy device-wide.

Step 3 — Open the proxy settings in AdGuard

In AdGuard, tap the Settings icon (gear, bottom navigation). Tap Filtering. Tap Network. Tap Proxy. This is the proxy configuration screen.

Step 4 — Add your TradersProxy proxy server

Tap the + (add) button to create a new proxy entry. Configure it as follows:

  • Proxy type: SOCKS5 (preferred). If your mobile carrier blocks SOCKS5, use HTTP as a fallback — TradersProxy supports both.
  • Proxy host: paste the host from your portal
  • Proxy port: enter the port number from your portal
  • Username: enter your TradersProxy username
  • Password: enter your TradersProxy password

Tap Save. The proxy entry appears in your proxy list.

Step 5 — Enable the proxy

Toggle Enable proxy on. The entry you just created becomes the active proxy.

Step 6 — Enable AdGuard protection

Return to the AdGuard main screen. Tap Enable protection (or confirm the shield icon shows green / “Protection is On”). Both the proxy toggle and AdGuard’s main protection must be active for traffic to route through the proxy. If AdGuard is paused, the proxy does not apply even if configured.

Step 7 — Launch MT4 and confirm

Open MT4. Connect to your broker as usual. MT4 does not show a proxy indicator in the mobile app — the routing happens transparently at the OS level. Your MT4 traffic is now routed through your TradersProxy node on its way to your broker’s server.

To confirm the proxy is active, you can open a browser and check your IP — it should show the TradersProxy node IP, not your home IP.

Known gotchas on Android

Issues traders hit most often with the AdGuard proxy method on Android.

01

AdGuard requires battery optimisation to be disabled. Android kills background processes to save battery. Go to Android Settings → Apps → AdGuard → Battery → select Unrestricted. If battery optimisation is on, AdGuard suspends when your screen turns off — which drops the proxy and disconnects MT4.

02

Proxy must be re-enabled after AdGuard updates. AdGuard app updates sometimes reset the proxy toggle to off. After an AdGuard update, check Settings → Filtering → Network → Proxy to confirm the proxy is still enabled before trading.

03

Some mobile carriers block port 1080 on cellular data. SOCKS5 defaults to port 1080. If the proxy works on Wi-Fi but not on mobile data, your carrier is likely blocking that port. Switch the proxy type to HTTP in AdGuard — TradersProxy supports HTTP proxy on an alternate port. Contact support if you need the alternate port details.

04

Data usage increases on mobile plans. The proxy routes all phone traffic — not just MT4. Heavy background apps (photo sync, app updates, video streaming) will consume your mobile data plan while proxied. Disable AdGuard when you are not trading, or use AdGuard’s per-app filtering to exclude high-bandwidth background apps.

Alternative: SocksDroid

SocksDroid is a dedicated SOCKS5 proxy client for Android. It’s lighter than AdGuard — no ad-blocking layer, no “enable protection” toggle — just a direct SOCKS5 tunnel using Android’s VPN service. Free, no root required, available on Google Play.

SocksDroid setup — 4 steps

Step 1 — Install SocksDroid from Google Play

Search SocksDroid on Google Play and install it. Grant the VPN permission when prompted — it uses Android’s VPN service to route traffic, the same mechanism as AdGuard.

Step 2 — Enter your proxy server details

In SocksDroid, paste your TradersProxy host into the Server Address field and your port into the Port field.

Step 3 — Enable authentication

Toggle Enable Authentication on. Enter your TradersProxy username and password from the portal. SocksDroid supports SOCKS5 username/password authentication directly.

Step 4 — Connect

Tap the connect toggle at the top of the screen. SocksDroid creates a VPN tunnel routing all device traffic through your TradersProxy SOCKS5 node. Open MT4 and connect to your broker as normal.

AdGuard vs SocksDroid: AdGuard supports per-app filtering and has a more polished UI. SocksDroid is leaner — one toggle, purpose-built for proxy routing. Both require battery optimisation disabled (Android Settings → Apps → [app] → Battery → Unrestricted) to stay active when your screen locks.

FAQ — MT4 on Android

  • No. Unlike the desktop version, MT4 for Android does not have a proxy settings dialog in its menu. There is no hamburger → Settings → Connection → proxy path. The correct method is to use a device-level proxy tool such as AdGuard (free, Google Play) which sets the proxy at the OS level and routes all apps including MT4 through it.

  • Yes. AdGuard free on Android supports SOCKS5 and HTTP proxy types, both with username and password authentication. You enter the credentials in Settings → Filtering → Network → Proxy when adding a proxy server.

  • Yes. A device-level proxy set through AdGuard applies to all apps on the phone, not just MT4. This is the phone-wide nature of the method. Your browser, email, and other apps will also route through the proxy while AdGuard is active. If you want to exclude specific apps, AdGuard supports per-app routing in its Apps section.

  • Yes, on Standard plan or higher which allow two simultaneous device slots. Each active device connection counts as one slot. Check your plan's device limit in the portal.
